Manor house accommodation launched

Portland Manor has launched its latest accommodation offering at the Manor House on the estsate. We are delighted to share the history of the homestead with our guests.

Henry Barrington was inspired by old English homes to build his own family home on his farm at Portland to be ‘a very perfect place’. He paid close attention to every detail, choosing elegant furniture, beautiful chandeliers, captivating paintings, and cherished books, which were all brought to him on a ship. Unfortunately, the Great Fire of 1869 destroyed Henry’s masterpiece. However, he didn’t give up and quickly rebuilt the house, finishing it in 1871. Today, the house still stands as a symbol of resilience and beauty.

When you enter the house, you’ll find a haven that combines history with modern comfort. There are five lovely bedrooms, a kitchen, a grand dining room for fancy gatherings, a magnificent library, and a spacious drawing room where you can relax and have conversations. As you step onto the wide terrace, you’ll be amazed by the stunning views of the gardens, farmlands, forests, and mountains.

Staying at The Manor House, you can experience the legacy of Henry Barrington and be transported to a world of elegance and comfort. The house can accommodate eight guests and has four elegant rooms, two on the ground floor and two on the first floor. The Sun Room, The Royal Room, Kate’s Room and Archie’s Room are spacious and airy, with high ceilings and wooden floors and offer pretty views of the landscaped gardens. All the rooms seamlessly blend modern comforts with a touch of the past, with a sense of grandeur that can be felt throughout the house. Walking on the wooden floors, you can hear their gentle creaks, whispering stories of the past. The antique doors and windows stand as reminders of history. Each room is thoughtfully furnished with period furniture, carefully chosen to create a specific atmosphere and transport guests to a different time. The bathrooms have Victorian-style baths, inviting guests to relax and find comfort.

The combination of historical charm and modern amenities creates a perfect balance, ensuring that every part of the guests’ experience is enchanting.
