SAVE THE DATE: On Saturday, 11 November we welcome Riana Wiechers from Knysna Forest Pottery to facilitate an incredible Pottery Workshop and Lunch event here at Portland Manor!
Taking place from 11am – 3pm, we invite guests to join us for a day of clay play and creativity at beautiful Portland Manor Country Estate, situated at the edge of the ancient Knysna forest in scenic Rheenendal.
At the workshop, you will receive a portion of clay and all the tools and guidance required to create your very own ceramic artwork! Included in the programme is a delectable Harvest Table lunch at Portland’s The Cowshed Eatery restaurant, well-known for its fresh and delicious wood-fired fare.
Suitable for all, even complete beginners, this pottery workshop is perfect for anyone wishing to come and unwind while reconnecting with their innate creativity through the wonderful medium of clay.
Cost: R595 per person (includes lunch, all materials, workshop & the firing of your clay work which can be collected from Portland Manor when they’re ready).
HERE’S WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE DAY:
Using a dark-firing earthenware clay (see examples below), facilitator Riana will demonstrate the basics of hand-building with clay, before presenting a step-by-step demonstration for sculpting a decorative ceramic bowl or planter. If you prefer, you’ll also have complete freedom to create anything you wish from your portion clay.

Knysna Forest Pottery offers half-day pottery workshops at Homtini Farm in Rheenendal, on weekend days in the cooler months of March to October. These fun, informal workshops take place in the beautiful Knysna forest, and are facilitated by ceramic artist and yoga instructor Riana Wiechers. Passionate about clay, plants, yoga, and animals, Riana also loves to share her knowledge of creating with clay.
